For venture capital firms, we narrow the scope of our analyses to focus on improvement rates of very specific, breakthrough technologies, and key actors for the technology area of interest so these firms can make informed investing decisions. Some example topics that we’ve worked on for VCs include anti-UAV lasers, high power microwaves, and lidar sensors.

For instance, we recently worked with a VC that was interested in investing in startups that produce lidar sensors. From TechNext’s reports, this VC was able to gauge if/when the lidar sensors produced by the startups of interest will overtake current, high performing lidars in terms of cost/benefit metrics. This information was valuable to the VC because it showed them that investment in a startup of interest faced a highly challenging technological hurdle. Based upon this and their assessment of staff quality and other business issues, they were able to make a more-informed choice.
